Arrival

We arrived safety in Jacmel, Haiti last night around 9pm. It was a really long travel day. We woke up at 3:30am, arrived at the airport at 4:30 to meet the team. 18 team members, 36 50-lb checked bags, 18 carry-ons. The flight from MSP to MIA was uneventful. We had a really long lay over in Miami and when we finally boarded the plane the pilot told us that a man had checked his bags and then not boarded the plane. We had to sit in the super hot plane for over an hour while they unloaded the bags to find his bag, remove his bag, then he boards so they have to check his bag again, then reload the plane.... then we were off.

We landed in Port au Prince around 4:30 and despite the horribly long travel day my kids sprung to life. They started shouting out all they were seeing, "a pig, a dog, lots of brown people, so many tents." The kids were excited, as was I but also shocked. I had heard about the tent cities in Port au Prince. I have seen them in Gressier. But the number and size of tent cities in Port shocked me. We drove past the ruin of the palace and it was amazing as well. So much destruction.

The ride from Port-au-Prince was long and uneventful. We are now staying in a guest house and starting preparations to start the soccer camp tomorrow. My kids are hot and whiny. We all are hot. But we are safe.
